Okay, so now onto my issues about changing the story here to suit this “bonus” scene. I was hoping for something a little closer to Book 4, Chapter 4…that maybe took place after Shadowfever. Then there’s mention of an awesome 4 hours of sex, every-which-way you can imagine, but no details. It’s a rehash of the conversation that Barrons and Mac have at the Clarin House, with loads of Barrons internalizing. This is supposed to be a ‘bonus sex scene from JZB’s POV.’ Well, it succeeds in one aspect. Read no further if you haven’t at least read through Chapter 3 of Darkfever and/or read this scene.īefore I get into the issues I have with this being reality, let me just talk about the snippet’s worth without that baggage. Which makes me rage beyond all levels of rage. But since this was made canon in Burned, I guess that last paragraph is pointless. Specifically the very last paragraph from Barrons talking directly to KMM. It’s missing some stuff that I remember in the original (which I have on my computer at home and will check tonight). SPOILERS for Darkfever through Burned possible. The Alpha Alternative by Karen Marie Moningīonus sex scene from Barrons’ POV found on Karen Marie Moning’s website. ![]()

The second section is the story of a Black man's life who matters (like all Black men!), and the multitudinous world that is a life which gets flattened by a headline. If we read this section carefully, we realise that the point of view character of the next section is introduced and one of the crimes is part of a larger plot throughout the novel. The first part of the novel is stream of conscious, and follows Leah, a mixed race woman in her late 30s. The novel centres the very people and locations too often consigned to the periphery but of course each of these people is "the sole author of the dictionary that defines" them, in Zadie Smith's words. Which is the only flaw I had concluded after reading this.A really great book, I would give 5 stars but multiple glossary words made me give only 4. It makes it clearer but there are times when I still don't understand the word or 'status' so I had to flip back to the glossary for it. Although the words stated in the glossary would be better if they explain the word more during the story. When I started with the first book, I was disappointed with it, I almost gave up on the series because the first book didn't give me the mic drop ending I expected. I enjoy the ride of the story plot and it was really a good book.
